Killion Assistive Technology Lab Opens its Doors to Montgomery County for Open House

Photo Feb 28, 4 14 11 PMFebruary 28th, 2014, Bridging Apps showcased it’s Killion Assistive Technology Lab by opening it’s doors to a community that is interested in knowing more about Assistive Technology.

Visitors were educated on how the BridgingApps website can help users determine what applications will help achieve their communication and therapy goals. They also received a tour of the lab and were able to play with different mobile devices such as the iPad, iPod Touch, Android Tablets, DynaVox and switch toys.  Many of the Apps that are featured on the BridgingApps website are installed on the devices at the lab.  This gave our guests a direct experience with the apps and helped them to better understand each app’s uses and potential.

“The population in Montgomery County just keeps exploding, which means the population of people with disabilities is growing as well”, says Andi Fry, of Bridging Apps Montgomery County. “We are so lucky that Easter Seals along with the generous support from Leadership Montgomery County, and the Killion Family have seen the incredible need to support photoit’s community with a resource that helps create independence for people with a disability through the use of technology.  Assistive technology equipment is expensive. And it’s hard to tell if you will benefit from it unless you try it out first.  BridgingApps allows you to come in and have hands on time with the devices and apps.  The best part is that it is all free to the community.”

The Montgomery County  lab is open every Friday from 10a.m. to 3p.m. It’s located at 1600 Lake Front Circle, #218, The Woodlands, TX 77380. You can reach Andi Fry, at afry@eastersealshouston.org.  Click HERE for more information about other Assistive Technology labs in Houston Metro area.
