Swackett Jr. is a visual weather report designed for young people. Weather forecast and temperature ranges for the next 5 days are featured within the app as well as a fun child graphic dressed for the current weather. Users can add their current location and additional locations. Swackett Jr. is great for decision-making and building independence in typically developing learners, as well as users with ADD, autism spectrum disorder and developmental delays. It is also handy for ELL learners because it is available in multiple languages.
We have used this app with children ages 6 – 12 and found it very helpful with decision making and building independence. Users were able to open the app by themselves, read the daily weather and use it to choose the appropriate clothing to wear. Parents and caregivers appreciate that it lightens their daily workload.
