BridgingApps Reviewed App | Spellyfish Phonics – Short I Words

Spellyfish IBridgingApps just published the following BridgingApps Reviewed App on the site:

Spellyfish Phonics – Short I Words uses phonics to teach spelling of short a CVC words such as “sit”. It also targets phonemic awareness, word decoding, letter sounds and blending. The app is aligned with the Common Core Standards in the area of reading in kindergarten. While the app is marketed to young children, the interface is fun but not babyish. This is a great app to use with older children who are working on phonics.

We trialed this app with children with diagnoses of autism, learning disabilities and speech and language delays between the ages of six and nine. They loved the app and found the interface very intuitive. They were able to go through the lessons independently. This app is great for kids with special needs due to the visual nature of the lessons. It also offers repetition and auditory support. The graphics are pleasant but not overwhelming.
