BridgingApps just published the following BridgingApps Reviewed App on the site:
Autism Discovery Tool is a means for people who interact with those on the autism spectrum to better understand the sensory issues they face. The app allows people to experience the sensory stimuli within the environment as a person with autism might.
The app addresses seven senses including vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch, balance and body position. Each sense is presented in a scene like a classroom, kitchen or a playground. Each scene changes to demonstrate how a typical child, an oversensitive child, an under sensitive child or a child with a distorted or enhanced senses would experience the environment. The senses and the variations are presented separately to help the user although most autistic children have a combination of these sensory deviations.
This app was reviewed with persons that teach children with autism. They each found the information provided to be an excellent resource in understanding the reactions and responses of children on the spectrum. This app was highly recommended for use with families and caregivers of those that live with and interact with children who have autism.
