BridgingApps, a program and website of Easter Seals of Greater Houston, provides resources, education, and information on apps and mobile devices to help people with disabilities target and improve skills and reach their highest levels of physical, social, and cognitive development.

Position Type: Full-time (40 hrs), including some evening and occasional week-end work

Location: Houston, TX

Position Purpose: The Digital Skills Trainer at BridgingApps will help individuals with disabilities, caregivers, veterans, military connected families and older adults who need technical support using mobile devices and applications and/or coaching in introductory digital skills in order to become effective users.

The ideal candidate will have basic computer skills and moderate digital literacy skills with a strong interest in utilizing smartphones and tablets and a willingness to be trained. S/he will be a self-starter and highly motivated by the Easter Seals of Greater Houston mission to provide help, hope and answers to people with disabilities and their families by providing excellent client service and expanding the reach of the BridgingApps program and resources.

As a Digital Skills Trainer, you will join a dynamic team of professionals who care deeply about supporting individuals with disabilities through the use of technology. More specifically, you will get to:

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide in-person and virtual digital skills training to a diverse group of learners (people with disabilities families, seniors, caregivers, veterans, etc.) ranging from 1-50 people in a warm, patient and supportive way keeping in mind their goals related to technology
  • Staff weekly Assistive Technology (AT) lab hours for BridgingApps Assistive Technology Lab
  • Represent BridgingApps and Easter Seals Greater Houston at resource fairs, conferences, and assist with presentations to the public about BridgingApps services, resources, and websites
  • Assist with identifying, trialing and writing reviews for apps that are of benefit for a variety of users including older adults, seniors, veterans, people with disabilities, and children
  • Collaborate with team members to develop content that promotes user engagement with BridgingApps.org, fulfills grant requirements and meets project deadlines (ex. write client success stories, support disability awareness days, other activities as needed)

Required qualifications:

  • 2- or 4- year undergraduate degree
  • English/Spanish bilingual
  • Familiarity with and strong interest in mobile technology, such as smartphones and tablets
  • 2 + years’ experience working with individuals who have disabilities or have a family member with a disability
  • Superior Interpersonal skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with those of diverse backgrounds and different abilities

Preferred qualifications:

  • Degree in education, special education or related field such as occupational, assistive technology, recreational, social work or speech therapy
  • Assistive Technology experience preferred, but not required
  • Familiar with screencasting software like PowerPoint, Screencastomatic, or screen
