The topic for the Sept. 10th Fort Worth BridgingApps local meeting was Back to School: Creating a UDL Toolkit. According to the Center for Applied Special Technology (CAST), UDL is a set of principles for curriculum development that give all individuals equal opportunities to learn.Â
UDL provides a blueprint for creating instructional goals, methods, materials, and assessments that work for everyone–not a single, one-size-fits-all solution but rather flexible approaches that can be customized and adjusted for individual needs. Technology is integral to UDL, because it greatly increases the number of options available for learners by providing multiple means of representation, expression, and engagement.Â
After a watching a brief video about Universal Design for Learning, participants explored apps that could be used to provide options for students to learn and demonstrate what they know, with a focus on apps that could help minimize barriers associated with text. Â
