BridgingApps and Texas Children’s Hospital Share Helpful Apps at Physical Medicine Conference

Five women standing holding iPadsOn October 13th, BridgingApps collaborated with Texas Children’s Hospital to provide a hands-on learning session at the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Annual Assembly in Denver, Colorado. The topic was Technology and Transition – Do You Have the Right App for That?

Families who have children with special health care needs can be overwhelmed by navigating the complex process of transitioning from pediatric to adult-based care. Technology such as mobile devices can empower families to begin planning early, ask the right questions and access resources to make this transition easier. Because 73% of teens have access to a smartphone and digital content appeals to children and young adults, mobile devices and apps can engage and encourage young adults to participate more fully in their own transition to adulthood.small groups of people with iPads

With the explosion in the app market, there are a variety of patient-centered apps available that can assist with many areas of transition such as managing health information, incentivizing healthy activities, facilitating medication reminders, and improving communication with providers. The focus of the interactive session was how to incorporate mobile devices and apps into the transition process. iPads loaded with 15 apps were available for participants to explore with expert guidance from facilitators Dr. Aloysia Schwabe, Dr. Rochelle Dy, Dr. Wendy Pierce, Dr. Gabrielle Nguyen and BridgingApps Co-Founder, Cristen Reat.
