Walk With Me 2026: Less Than a Month Away!

Thanks to all who read our first Walk With Me 2026 post on February 25, and took time to share the news, make a donation, and/or sign up as a walker! (If you didn’t see the earlier post—or if you just need a reminder—there’s still time before the actual Walk on April 11.)

A Decade and a Half of Fundraising

The first annual Walk With Me was in 2011, had 800 participants, and brought in $100,000. Twelve years later, those numbers had risen to 4,000 participants and over $767,000. This year, BridgingApps aims for a minimum of $10,000; and the full total for Easter Seals Greater Houston (ESGH) could break $1 million.

Memorable moments from Walk With Me history:

  • 2015: Prosperity Bank becomes the official Walk presenter and sponsor.
  • 2020: Just a few weeks into pandemic shutdowns, ESGH organizes its first virtual Walk, complete with social-media-sharing instructions. (See BridgingApps YouTube video, “Walk With Me Virtually 2020.”)
  • 2021: With pandemic concerns lessened, Walk With Me goes hybrid, inviting participants to choose between virtual and in-person participation.

Basics for 2026 First-Timers

Except for 2020’s virtual event, Walk With Me has always been held inside the Houston Zoo; so participation benefits include a free zoo day for walkers who raise at least $50 (or belong to a walk team that has raised $50, or are under 10 years old).

The main Walk route covers about 5 kilometers (just over 3 miles), or 1–2 hours for most people. Look for supporters holding signs (usually handmade with encouraging slogans) along the way. Check-in begins at 7 a.m. After your walk, visit the Masihara Pavilion for entertainment and refreshments, served until 10:30.

Tips for a Successful Walk

  • Few Walk participants encounter accessibility issues. If you have special concerns, however, check the Zoo’s “Plan Your Visit” page in advance.
  • Arrive as early as possible: parking fills up quickly. And set your navigator app for “Houston Zoo” specifically. Looking for it “in Hermann Park” or “near the Houston Museum of Natural Science” leaves too much room for getting lost.
  • It’s possible to get lost inside the Zoo itself. You won’t be disqualified for wandering off the Walk route; but it’s a good idea to be clear on locations of official maps, the front gate—and the Masihara Pavilion, if making the afterparty is important to you.
  • Be prepared for crowds, especially after the Zoo opens to the public at 9 a.m. If you have sensory-overload problems, bring your noise-cancelling headphones or whatever else you need for a “safe space” plan.

Closing Note

Besides being the 15th year since Walk With Me began, 2026 is also the 15th year since BridgingApps joined Easter Seals Greater Houston. In honor of the double anniversary, we’d love to have you visit our BridgingApps Walk With Me page, see who’s participating from our team, and make a donation!
