February is Low Vision Awareness Month (some add “Age-Related Macular Degeneration” to that name). Check out the app recommendations under BridgingApps for Blind and Low Vision Users and BridgingApps Low Vision Apps for Older Adults: there are suggestions for practical help and for fun activities.
(Quick facts: “Low vision” refers to any disability that affects vision to the point of interfering with daily-life activities. “Blindness” refers specifically to 20/200 or lower vision, or to a visual field of 20 degrees or less. Fewer than 20 percent of legally blind people are “fully” or “totally” blind, meaning their eyes are completely unable to perceive light. A few blind people are born with no physical eyes at all.)
