SUMMARY:Virtual Young Adult (and Parent) Open Lab: Stafford Location
DESCRIPTION:Summer is starting to wind down\, but we know technology never does.   We had such a great turnout at our last Young Adult & Parent open lab.  Several of you joined us in person\, and we had a good number of people join us virtually.  We know that the summer schedules can be somewhat challenging since many are travelling and out of their routines.\n\n\nPlease note:  Our next open lab will be virtual only.  This event is always open to the public\, so feel free to share.  It is typically held every 4th Thursday of the month. We will talk about fun and useful apps for your smartphone and tablet.  I always come prepared with a topic to share. \nFor the month of June we discussed:\nDuring the open lab\, we learned about cloud storage\, including the differences between iOS and Android platforms and how to access iCloud files from a Windows PC. We also reviewed a fall internship opportunity\, discussing eligibility\, application requirements\, and available supports. \n \nThis month:\nAs we gear up for a new school year and possible scheduling changes\, we will talk about syncing calendars across devices\, creating events on your calendar\, and adding reminders to keep you on track.  If you like to write things down\, but still like to use your mobile devices to keep track of your appointments and events\, we’ll show you a couple of free hybrid apps (allowing you to do both – write with paper/pencil and have it on your phone also without double the work). \nWe will also be sharing resources for transition-aged adults and their parents from our Texas Youth 2 Adult website.  Although we will gear our conversations towards young adults\, it is very helpful to have parents attend as well.  This website is geared to helping parents navigate all the many lists of things to do as their young adults transition into adulthood. \nAgain\, this month we are only offering a virtual option.  In August our in-person (with virtual option) open labs will resume. \nHere is the login information below:\nJoin the meeting now\nMeeting ID: 234 157 277 629\nPasscode: 5JM2Ri3X \nFor step-by-step instructions on how to join us virtually\, click on the link below:\nDirections on How to Join a Teams Call \nContact TRocha@eastersealshouston.org to let her know you are coming and to ask questions about a specific device or app.  She can also be reached at 832-707-7672.

SUMMARY:In-Person (w/ virtual option) Young Adult and Parent Open Lab: Central Location
DESCRIPTION:  \n\n\nSummer is officially over (except for the heat is still here).   We decided to do switch things up and try out a new location for our next open lab.  We hope you can all join us.  Those that can’t join in person\, are welcome to join virtually.  We’d love to have parents stay/join if possible.\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event is always open to the public\, so feel free to share.  It is typically held every 4th Thursday of the month. \n\n\n\n\nHere are some of our past open labs we have had in case you missed them —\nJune\nDuring the open lab\, we learned about cloud storage\, including the differences between iOS and Android platforms and how to access iCloud files from a Windows PC. We also reviewed a fall internship opportunity\, discussing eligibility\, application requirements\, and available supports. \nJuly\nWe had a virtual session and had an awesome turn out.  We talked about some of Easter Seals newest projects\, including a grant we just received with Meta\, where we will be conducting trainings on using Meta glasses and how they can help with daily living.  Currently all of those spots are full\, but we are adding people to the waiting list.  We also shared a pilot with a company we met at CES (a tradeshow we attended back in January).  The name of the company is iPolish and it is color changing nails. “Change your nails in seconds. Change your outfit. Change your mood” with an app.  Please let me know if you are interested in trying it out.  We also talked a little bit about syncing calendars and creating events. \nThis month:\nSince we are going to be at our central location\, where all of our Easter Seals programming happens\, I would love to take you on a tour and show you our assistive technology lab (which is where we will have our meeting). \nWe will also talk about transitions\, keeping up with schedule changes and productivity apps to help with back-to-school.  Bring your mobile device\, tablet and/or laptop.  I always come prepared with a topic to share\, but as always we will talk about tech you are using (including questions you might have).  If you like to write things down\, but still like to use your mobile devices to keep track of your appointments and events\, we’ll show you a couple of free hybrid apps (allowing you to do both – write with paper/pencil and have it on your phone also without double the work). We will also talk about adding reminders to your phone to keep you on track. \nFor parents\, we still have our resources for Texas Youth 2 Adult website\, which helps transition-aged adults and their parents that we can also talk about.  Although we will gear our conversations towards young adults\, it is very helpful to have parents attend as well.  This website is geared to helping parents navigate all the many lists of things to do as their young adults transition into adulthood.

SUMMARY:Laptop Tech Talk: BridgingApps' lab-on-the-go
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for what we call “lab-on-the-go” at Catholic Charities in Richmond\, Texas. In these sessions\, we share some of our favorite apps and tech tips with the patrons at the Mamie George Community Center.  In our semi-monthly trainings\, we alternate between talking about computers and mobile devices (such as phones and tablets). \n\n\n\n\nFor this session\, we will be talking about creating strong passwords and password management systems (so you can always find your passwords when you need them). \nIf you have a laptop\, please feel free to bring it with you.  If you only have a phone\, you can just bring that.  \n\n\n\n\nWe hope that you will join us for this in-person event. \nFor more information about this class and others offered at the center\, you can call Catholic Charities at (281) 202-6200. \nYou can also contact TRocha@eastersealshouston.org to let her know you are coming and to ask questions about a specific device or app.  Tara can also be reached at 832-707-7672.
